Kenya Birds
Kenya has around 1100 bird species identified. We were fortunate enough to see about a quarter of these. Here we have put just a few of the more interesting birds.
We seen this medium size waiding bird in Lake Nakuru, named Hammercop because it's head has the shape of a hammer.

Nairobi National Park. This Stork has a uniquely shaped bill that has an open gap between both halves of the bill. it has dark plumage with a green shine.
it's a large waiding bird that lives in a variety of habitats. eating mostly amphibians, reptiles and insects.
Lake Nakuru. this Heron is also known as the Giant Heron as it is a very large waiding bird. in the wild it can live up to 15 years
it's common throughout sub-Saharan Africa. it breeds in the rainy season in colonies in trees, reedbeds or clifs.
This bird breeds in the Sub-Saharan Africa and S.E. Iraq. in ancient Egyptian sociaty they were worshiped as the good Thoth. Saving them from plagues and snakes.
Lake Nakuru. It is named for it's loud three to four note calls as they fly to and from their roosting place.
Lake Nakuru. It is a water bid often found around large bodies of water. also called snake bird because it swims with only its long neck and head showing.
Tsavo East. It is a midium sized Hawk that prey on mammals, birds and reptials usually from aperch, swooping down on them.
They are usually seen in large groups of up to 15 birds. Hunting in packs and rationing their catch amongst each other.
It is found mostly around wetlands. They are monogamous birds that remain in their breeding groungs most of the year. and they roost alone not like most other Harriers that roost in groups.
This Eagle is the largest one in Africa weghing 14 pounds, it is so strong it can knock a man off his feet, being at the top of the avian food chain. Flying speeds above 250 km/hr
This Eagle is one of the most colorfull with its red face and legs, chestnut colored back and tail, wings silver above and brilliant white bellow and black body. it prefers open habitats where it can be seen soaring at high altitudes.
They mostly eat fish from rivers and fresh water lakes. Their toes are coated in sharp barbs that help them grasp slippery fish.
This eagle is a rodent eater, Vlei rat, water rat, mole rat, mice and Shrews.
Also known as the giant eagle owl, it's the largest African owl.
It's nesting habits is using the nest of other birds, brood parasitism. they mostly eat insects, small vertebrates and berries.
A small cuckoo, males are glossy green above with copper sheen areas on the back, and red eyes. the females show more coppery colors above. They are brood parasite laying their egg in nests of weavers.
They are one of the smallest and brightest of the flamingos, they are the most numerous and live in large flocks of up to a millionin birds.
