Pictures of Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu
Get up early for sunrise but we recomend staying 2 nights. First morning the mountains were covered with clouds until after noon.
Llamas roam the site eating grass. This is a mother with her offspring.
Just as clouds started to lift on the first day.
Intihuatana, hitching post of the sun is found on the top of this hill. It had astronomical uses.
See the terraces, an ancient stone granery can be seen built right into the teraces.
To reach Machu Pichu you will fly into Cuscio. This town is like arriving in 16th century Spain.
This is the Cathedral facing the Plaza de Armas, well worth a visit. Be sure to try local food like Alpaca stew or Cuy (guinea pig). Walk slowly the altitude will get you.
Ruins just out of Cusco.
Sacred water fountains on drive to Pisac.
We hired a car to drive us through the Sacred Valley and visit the sights along the way. Well worth the trip. Pisac has a market we visited. Ruins are at 4000 meters, walk slowly.
Pisac is at a very high altitude. Extensive terraces as seen in the picture.
See the tunel carved through the rock on the trail.
